Nicholas House is pleased to announce the newest program in the services provided by its Youth Programs. “I-Rise” is a Nicholas House youth girls group ranging from ages of 11 to 17. The goal for the “I Rise” Girls Group is to establish a firm foundation that young girls can build character, integrity and develop leadership skills through the support of strong female adults.
Living in a shelter environment limits teenagers to a structured lifestyle that is not often equipped with the normal everyday teenage activities. With the guidance of concerned women, these girls can discover and explore who they are and what they are capable of accomplishing in light of their individual strengths.
We are beginning to schedule activities and we would love for you to be involved. Please contact Marla Poe, Volunteer Coordinator, 404-633-8386 x 104 or mpoe@nicholashouse.org for specifics on how your talents and skills can impact this incredible program!
I-RISE NEWS ITEM
The Atlanta Women’s Foundation has generously provided support for this program!
Did You Know?
The children at Nicholas House………
…..attending public schools are at or above a C average and we have one child that attends a Magnet school program and more than 10 honor roll students.
…..would love to participate in extra-curricular school activities, such as band, cheerleading, dance teams but cannot afford the fees associated with these activities (maybe you could become a sponsor?)
…..need positive and reliable Mentors that can commit to a mentoring relationship with a child for at least six months (I-RISE program)
…..love active sports and activities, such as karate, gymnastics, tumbling, ballet, Spanish classes, entrepreneur opportunities and training, and Girl/ Boy Scouts (maybe you can provide one of these trainings)
Or maybe you have your own idea, special talent or activity that you would like to share with our children.
If so, please contact Shewan Warren, Youth Services Coordinator (404)633 8386.
Thank you in advance for your time, commitment, love and understanding in helping the children that we serve at Nicholas House
